The Shadow

Group Exhibition, KZNSA, 2010

The Shadow is a fascination of Pereira de Vlieg’s, implying connectivity between figure and field, referencing Jung’s description of the shadow as gold in the psyche – the hidden gifts and talents, symbolising the attainment of full potential and negative if not revealed and utilised . These detailed, figurative, oil on canvas studies celebrate the high contrasts of coastal light, deep etching the figures and rendering the field almost overexposed.
